Jessica & Viki [2003]
[Viki is thrilled now that Jessica has returned from London]
Viki: Honey, I was praying for our family, that we would all be together again, and now God has answered my prayers twice -- assuming that you're staying.
Jessica: For now.
Viki: I can't tell you how happy that makes me.
Jessica: (to Viki and Joey) Well, I'm not exactly great at running away. I always seem to come back.
Viki: (about Mitch) He's your biological father, nothing more.
Jessica: Well, that's a lot.
[Jessica urges Viki to face Victor Lord]
Jessica: When I came back, I knew I had to face my father. I didn't think I could do it, but I did.
Viki: But you're so much braver than I am. You are.
Jessica: No. Mom, you can do it, too.
Viki: I don't know if I can, Jessie.
Jessica: I do, because I learned it from you. You're the one that taught me how to be strong. You're my mother. I'm your daughter. And Mitch Laurence and Victor Lord, they can't take that from us. They can't take what we have.
Viki: Wow. We've come a long way since we found out that Mitch was your father, haven't we?
Jessica: Yeah, we have. I mean, for the longest time, I -- I couldn't get over the fact that when you looked at me, all you could see was Mitch.
Viki: Honey, I never did that, and I never will.
[Viki and Jessica prepare to move out of Llanfair]
Viki: Oh, my God, there are so many memories in this house. Some of them are wonderful and some of them are really terrible. You know, there were times when I hated it so much here it felt like a prison. And then there were so many happy times, especially with my children.
Jessica: I remember hide-and-go-seek. I remember I loved to hide right behind this couch. And you would act absolutely stymied. And finally, you would flop down on the sofa and say, "She's gone forever."
Viki: And then you'd pop up from behind me, and you would laugh and laugh and laugh.
Viki: (about Mitch) Blind or not, that man is evil to his core.
Jessica: Consider me warned.
Viki: You've had so much sorrow in your life, Jessie.
Jessica: Well, no more than anybody else.
Viki: When you were born, people asked me what I wanted for you. All that I have ever and always wanted is just for you to be happy. And this is not the life that I wished for you and I am so sorry.
Viki: (about Antonio) Now he's going on trial for his life.
Jessica: That's not going to happen.
Viki: Well, it may not happen. The jury may see it his way, but --
Jessica: Well, it's not going to happen because you taught me how to be a good journalist. I’m going to do everything in my power to find out exactly what happened the night Keri died.
Viki: I’m your mother and I bear a lot of responsibility for what's happened to you.
Jessica: Mom, I’m fine. My life is what it is, and you can’t live without pain. I mean, was your life perfect? My life has been -- it's been happy, it's been miserable, it's been brave, it's been scared, it's been lucky, and it's been unlucky, and I am fine with that.
Jessica: I know what you'd tell me to do. You would say, "Jessie, the world can be a cold and lonely place, and sometimes you have to jump in with both feet, no matter how scared you are."
Viki: Sounds vaguely familiar.
Jessica: Mm-hmm.
