When Forbes March (Nash) tried to get cute in a scene with Jerry verDorn (Clint), the vet quickly showed him how things are done. "There was a pizza sitting on a table and it was just bugging me, so I said, 'Someone should eat a piece of that pizza,'" March recalls. "[But] the scene suddenly becomes about whoever's going for the pizza as opposed to what's being said, and he had this big monologue. So I go to reach for the pizza and he just slammed the lid shut on my hand, and suddenly that became this really cool beat because he's putting Nash in his place. I wasn't trying to upstage him, but he totally took my upstage and upstaged me and it totally heightened the whole scene. You learn from things like that."
