Forbes on the Character of Nash

"Nash is a devil-may-care kinda guy.  He goes for it.  He's good fun." -- SoapNet "ABC Reveals Soap Secrets" 8/26/05

(on what drew him to the character of Nash)  "I really wanted to play something a little more 'wink, wink,' a little more devilish -- I had a good feeling [about him]." (SID 12/6/05)

"It's a good story, Nash is a really fun character.  I get nice, snappy lines.  I'm having a blast." (SOD 12/20/05)

(the dumbest thing Nash did in 2005)  "Uh, not realizing that the woman he's in love with [Tess] isn't real.  Should've figured that one out, don't ya' think?" (SOD 12/27/05)

Forbes on Nash & Tess/Jessica

(on when Nash realized he really liked Tess)  "I think he liked her the moment he saw her.  He knows that she's used to getting her way and he likes pushing her buttons a little bit, but that's just his way." -- SOD 8/30/05

“There’s a tug of war going on with Antonio and Nash and Jessica/Tess is in the middle.  When she’s Tess, we run away.  When she’s Jessica, they run back [to Llanview].”  (SOW Online Nov 2005)

(on Nash's reaction to Tess being pregnant)  “Nash’s reaction was written slightly ambiguous. We decided after much discussion that Nash would immediately be supportive because he has no family and he’d want a family.  It also seemed to be a nice contrast to Tess.  She’s more of a free spirit where Nash doesn’t want to be as free.  It sets up an interesting dynamic there.” (SOW Online Nov 2005)

“I don’t think Nash really understands the differences between Jessica and Tess, but I suspect he’ll grow to know both sides of her well over time.  As far as Nash is concerned, there’s not a big difference.  It’s almost as if one has amnesia and one of them knows him well.  You’re looking at the same woman dressed slightly differently, whose facial expressions are a little different, and it’s like one’s in a really good mood and one’s in a serious mood.  He’ll see the differences and realize that he loves one more than the other.” (SOW Online Nov 2005)

(on Nash's feelings for Tess) "The audience -- and Nash -- are never quite sure if he's fighting for her spirit or for possessive reasons.  I think it's a little bit of both." (SID 12/6/05)

"Nash wants to be a little devilish, to be that bad boy. But something about Tess brings out the best side of him." (SOD 12/13/05)

Forbes on Bree Williamson (Tess/Jessica)

"We're both Canadian. When I went in to test for this role, there was a whole 'Oh, great, another Canadian' thing. Then, the whole room started with the 'Eh? Eh? How's it going, eh? How you doing, eh?' So, then it sort of becomes an us-against-them kind of thing, in a fun way." (SOD 9/27/05)

(on a funny moment during filming the Rollerblading scene with Bree)  "I was showing off.  There was a lot of pressure on me.  We're both Canadian, and I'm supposed to know how to play hockey, which I can't do any more, so I'm supposed to know how to Rollerblade.  I was trying to live up to expectations and I completely fell on my ass. ... Yeah, everybody found it delightful." (SOD 1/21/06)

(during an interview Bree says that Forbes is "cute" when filming their love scenes)  "I'm glad she referred to me as cute. I just feel clumsy and awkward.  I hate doing those scenes!  It's like a no-win situation.  If you get into them, it's embarrassing and excruciating and as publicly belittling as one could imagine it would be.  And on the other hand, you gotta go for it because everyone's watching to see if you're any good in the sack.  Meanwhile, half of the people around you are just chit-chatting about whatever their baseball team is doing.  (SOD 1/21/06)

(on why he and Bree have good chemistry)  "We try to bring whatever was going on right before the camera on with us for the camera.  I have a really great time working with her.  It's so refreshing to be able to just step on and enjoy the groove."  (SOD 1/21/06)

Forbes on His Co-Workers

“It’s neat working with Erika Slezak (Viki) and Jerry verDorn (Clint) because they are so good.  There are so many levels to their performances:  They’re liking you, hating you, being suspicious of you and being supportive of you all at the same time.  I don’t know if that’s the way experienced adults behave and, as such, the actors do or if it’s good acting.  I suspect it’s a combination of both.” (SOW Online Nov 2005)

"Jerry [VerDorn, Clint] is so much fun to work with; we get along really well.  He's got a little devil in him." (SID 12/6/05)

"David Canary (AMC's Adam/Stuart) has the enormous respect of everybody around him without ever demanding it.  He's the most dignified man I've ever worked with." (SID 12/6/05)

(on Kamar de los Reyes [Antonio]) "We've become good friends while working on the scripts.  We'll look a week in advance at anything that's important and start talking about it.  We'll joke around and improv stuff.  Not because we're gonna improve on camera, but just to see what comes off.  We'll talk about who's gonna win each scene, who's gonna win a fight -- that's important.  So we go for a drink and work on the scripts.  Probably the best working relationship on TV I've had is with Kamar." (SOD 12/27/05)

(on filming the infamous pizza scene with Jerry verDorn [Clint]) "There was a pizza sitting on a table and it was just bugging me, so I said, 'Someone should eat a piece of that pizza,' [But] the scene suddenly becomes about whoever's going for the pizza as opposed to what's being said, and he had this big monologue.  So I go to reach for the pizza and he just slammed the lid shut on my hand, and suddenly that became this really cool beat because he's putting Nash in his place.  I wasn't trying to upstage him, but he totally took my upstage and upstaged me and it totally heightened the whole scene.  You learn from things like that." (SOD 1/10/06)

Forbes on His Family

(on raising his daughter Marina)  "You're supposed to be grown-up, and I'm not.  I'm more of a party organizer than a disciplinarian." (SID 12/6/05)

"I realized it was time to get out of L.A. when I was telling [Marina] to put a hat on or some stupid Daddy thing, and she flipped her hair and looked over her shoulder and said, 'Whatever, Daddy!'  I just said, 'Noooooo!'  I could already see the little collar turned up and the alligator on her shirt.  I didn't want to turn into the epitome of everything I hate -- this pearly-white thing where she's like, 'How come I can't model when all my friends are modeling?'  Model?  You're 6!  Skip rope!  So I was like, 'You will not become this Valley, preppy little priss.  We're going to New York!'  It was like my version of sending her to a convent [laughs]."  (SOD 12/20/05)

Forbes on Himself & His Craft

"Robin Williams is my inspiration.  I remember seeing him in Mork & Mindy when I was a little kid. I said, 'That guy's a god.'  If I don't work with him before I die, my career will have been a failure.  I get the feeling that [even] he doesn't really know what he's going to do when he steps on set.  But whatever it is, you can bet it won't be boring.  It's going to be real, and it's going to be fascinating." (SID 11/8/05)

(on what he remembers about his audition for the role of Nash)  "I was out in L.A. so I put my stuff on tape.  But the very fact that they were willing to see me was a good sign.  I had already worked for ABC, so if there were any interest at all, it would be a good interest.  They weren't going to waste their time with me if I'd been blackballed." (SID 11/22/05)

(on being released from the role of AMC's Scott Chandler)  "It wasn't a surprise.  I think that their intentions were good, but they had no real storyline prepared for Scott. ...  I learned a lot, even though I didn't get to contribute as much as I'd like to.  Professionally, I was kind of relieved to be let off the hook.  I realize that now, in hindsight.  You learn what's in your control and what's not.  It's kind of freeing." (SID 12/6/05)

(on moving back to Canada when he was on "Mutant X")  "I'd been away from Canada for so long -- it was really nice.  At first, it was irritating, because it wasn't as I remembered it.  But by the time I left, I realized that it was much better." (SID 12/6/05)

(on what led him to move to the East Coast)  "I had a house in New Jersey that wouldn't sell, and one in L.A. that would.  So, I told my agent, 'Get me a job on the East Coast.'"  (SID 12/6/05)

"I really didn't think I would ever come back [to soaps].  The trouble with daytime is, you never have a moment of relaxation." (SID 12/6/05)

(on what winning the role of Nash means to him)  "For the first time in my life, I could take a job that I didn't need and just have some fun with it.  I hope that doesn't come across as unappreciative, but it's nice." (SID 12/6/05)

(at meeting fans at Super Soap Weekend 2005)  "It's so freaking awesome to see people smile." SID 1/17/06)
