THE STORY OF TESS, JESSICA & THE PREGNANCY

Jessica Buchanan was a victim of child molestation at the age of five years old. In order to deal with the trauma, her personality split in two in a case of Disassociative Identity Disorder (or DID). Her alternate personality went by the name of Tess. As Jessica grew up, Tess remained buried deep inside of her. But by 2005, Tess not only had started to emerge on her own -- she was ready to take her life back. This caused obvious problems for Jessica and her boyfriend Antonio Vega. Especially when Tess ran off to New York City and became involved with Nash Brennan. Nash, unaware that Tess was only an alternate personality, fell in love with her and they moved to Napa Valley, California in order to pursue Nash's dream of owning and operating his own vineyard.

While in Napa Valley, Tess discovered that she was pregnant. But who was the father -- Jessica's boyfriend, Antonio? Or Tess's boyfriend, Nash? Tess, not ready to be a mother, hid the pregnancy from Nash and contemplated an abortion. But before the procedure could take place, Jessica took back control and returned to Llanview, where she intended to reunite with Antonio. Nash followed her to Llanview and there, the secret of Tess/Jessica's DID came out.

Nash vowed to stand by Tess, and hoped that the baby would turn out to be his. Antonio also hoped to be proven the father of the baby. Tess remained in control throughout most of the pregnancy, and with Nash's help, she began to adjust to the idea of being a mom.



THE BIRTH OF BRENNAN

The baby was finally born on May 1, 2006. Antonio immediately requested a paternity test. Nash and Tess remained hopeful that the baby would turn out to be theirs. When a hospital representative asked Tess to record the baby's name, Tess chose the name "Brennan." She explained to Nash that this way, no matter what the paternity test said, their baby would always have Nash's name.

Only a few weeks after Brennan's birth, Nash began receiving threats from a man named George Reston (the father of Claudia, a girl Nash had previously broken up with). George threatened to harm Brennan unless Nash left Llanview. With a heavy heart, Nash told Tess about the threats and his decision to return to Napa until Reston could be dealt with. Tess tearfully agreed with Nash's choice. Nash then said goodbye to Brennan, and left town. After Nash's departure, a broken-hearted Tess decided to allow Jessica to regain control. Jessica re-emerged and reunited with Antonio.



THE PATERNITY RESULTS

Immediately after Jessica's return, the results of the paternity test came in. The results stated that Nash was without a doubt Brennan's father. Jessica and Antonio were upset at the news, but Antonio vowed that he planned to raise Brennan with Jessica as if the baby was his own daughter.

Jessica called Nash to tell him the good news. Nash was over-joyed and worked overtime to find a way to beat George Reston, so that he could go home to his daughter.



KIDNAPPING, INTEGRATION & A WEDDING

After defeating Reston, Nash quickly returned to Llanview. But he was distressed to find that Jessica remained in control. Nothing he tried brought Tess back to the surface. In an act of extreme desperation, Nash kidnapped Jessica and Brennan and took them with him to New York City. There, he tried to coax Tess back out. But before he could, Antonio and Clint (Jessica's father) tracked them down and intervened. They all returned to Llanview.

Jessica decided that it was time to go through the process of integration. With the support of her family, Jessica underwent a hypnosis session, during which she remembered the child molestation. Jessica and Tess then integrated into one personality.

While Jessica was the dominant personality, it became clear that she had taken on some very "Tess-like" attributes. Nash, despondent over the loss of the love of his life, started to drink heavily. His drinking only increased when he discovered that Jessica and Antonio had become engaged. Eventually, Nash came to the decision to stop drinking in order to focus completely on Brennan, as well as on a new vineyard (just outside of Llanview) that he had decided to buy and operate.

Nash and Jessica decided to try and be friends for Brennan's sake. And Antonio asked Nash to be a groomsman in his and Jessica's wedding, so that when Brennan got older, she would be able to look at wedding photos and realize that her parents got along. Nash agreed, even though he had severe misgivings about Jessica's ability to be married to anyone so soon after integration. He tried to talk sense into Jessica, but she married Antonio anyway.
